About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established professional services organization with multiple affiliated entities, is seeking a hands-on Director of Finance / Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role and work directly with ownership while inheriting a stable, well-functioning finance department. The organization is planning well in advance for a key retirement, allowing for meaningful overlap and knowledge transfer with the current finance leader.

The successful candidate will serve as the organization's primary financial expert, balancing strategic guidance with day-to-day accounting responsibilities.

Position Overview

This is a true working Controller role for a professional who enjoys both leadership and execution. The Director of Finance will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and operational finance activities across multiple entities.

As the sole accounting and finance professional within the organization, this individual must be comfortable owning the entire financial function while serving as a trusted advisor to ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting and finance operations across multiple affiliated entities
  • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and financial integrity
  • Handle accounts payable, reconciliations, banking activities, and financial analysis
  • Oversee payroll-related processes and financial administration
  • Manage commission and bonus calculations and reporting
  • Support employee benefit and HSA-related financial activities
  • Coordinate with external CPA partners on tax matters and compliance requirements
  • Prepare and present financial information to ownership
  • Analyze business performance and provide strategic recommendations
  • Support operational decision-making through meaningful financial insights
  • Assist with specialized real estate and transaction-related accounting activities
  • Continuously improve financial processes and internal controls

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred (active or inactive license considered)
  • Experience managing accounting functions independently
  • Strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting structures
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience working directly with owners, partners, or executive leadership teams
